A monkey lived happily in a tree beside a river. The tree grew delicious fruits, and the monkey often shared them with a crocodile who visited the riverbank. The two became good friends.

One day, the crocodile's wife heard about the sweet fruits the monkey ate. She wanted to meet the monkey and asked her husband to bring him home. The crocodile invited the monkey to ride across the river on his back.

Halfway across the river, the crocodile revealed the real reason for the journey. The monkey became frightened but stayed calm. He quickly said that his heart was still hanging on the fruit tree because he had forgotten to bring it.

The crocodile believed him and turned back toward the tree. As soon as they reached the riverbank, the monkey jumped into the branches. He thanked the crocodile for bringing him home and decided never to trust him again.
